Program Outline/Rationale:
The purpose of this PL module is build the capacity of teachers and curriculum leaders to deliver the new digital technologies curriculum to students. A major component of this new curriculum is that students in grades can code using a visual language. Unlike some other Digital Technologies PL modules on offer this day will be heavily focussed on the ‘How’ more so than the ‘Why’ it is very much ‘hands on’ There are some clear expectations attendees will leave with the skills and resources required to teach coding to their students. Who can participate? All teaching staff who will be actively involved in delivering the new Digital Technologies Curriculum. How the program will be structured? The module will be facilitated by Code Club Australia It will run for one day at a location to be decided once registration numbers have been submitted. It is hoped the day could be run in Southern, Northern and Central Zone individually if numbers exceed fifteen for each zone. The program has been designed to: ● Inform teachers about why coding has been added to the curriculum locally and nationally. ● Identify the benefits coding offers teachers and students across other curriculum areas. ● Provide training to teachers about coding on a various platform they can implement within their own schools. ● Provide teachers with free resources they can use with students. ● Provide teachers with future self-directed learning opportunities about coding and the Digital Technologies curriculum in general.
